Keeping Your Children Healthy for The Holidays

December 13, 2021
Keeping Your Children Healthy for The Holidays -

With the ease of restrictions and the rising number of individuals getting vaccinated, holiday trips and family gatherings are officially back on. There’s so much to arrange and plan for when it comes to our holiday get-togethers. In all the hustle and bustle, there’s something that usually gets overlooked, and it’s flu season. As a preferred San Antonio pediatrician, we know all too well about flu season, how it can affect your holiday plans, and, most importantly, how to prevent it.

Keeping Your Kids Healthy During the Holidays

Now that we’re back to holiday parties and gatherings, there are more opportunities for your child to be exposed to the flu and COVID. Beyond friend and family get-togethers, our San Antonio pediatric services are also in demand due to changes in the weather as well as the effects of climate changes during holiday travels. The last thing any child wants is to be sick when Santa arrives, and we don’t want that either! As your child’s San Antonio pediatrician, we work hard to stay ahead of these illnesses to keep your child healthy and happy. To keep the flu at bay, we recommend pediatric flu shots for children ages six months and up. To keep COVID at bay, we recommend getting the pediatric vaccine for children ages five to 11.

Flu Shots Are Your Best Bet For A Healthy Holiday Season

There are some common misconceptions about the effects of flu shots or a pediatric vaccine. First, it’s important that you know that a flu shot will not give your child the flu. The flu shot does cause side effects in some children such as headaches, muscle aches, nausea, and tiredness that could make it appear as though your child has come down with the flu, however, these side effects will subside in a day or so. These side effects are also not as severe as flu symptoms. There’s no better time than now to have your child receive their flu shot, and these shots are part of our San Antonio pediatric services

It’s also important to note that a pediatric flu shot does not protect your child against COVID. As your child’s San Antonio pediatrician, we recommend having your child receive a COVID pediatric vaccine if they are between the ages of five and 11. While flu shots and COVID pediatric vaccines are the best defense against the flu and COVID (respectively), there is still a possibility that your child could contract one or the other.

Then why get either?

We advise all of our parents to take advantage of these San Antonio pediatric services as they do keep your child safe from the symptoms of these devastating illnesses. Flu shots and COVID pediatric vaccines are particularly beneficial for children that suffer from asthma or any other upper respiratory illness. While they may still contract the flu or COVID, these shots and vaccines that we offer as part of our San Antonio pediatric services can reduce the impact the symptoms could have on your child, giving them a better chance of a full and speedier recovery.

Flu season will be in full effect sooner than later. Protect your child and schedule an appointment to receive their full shots and COVID pediatric vaccine today at 210.561.1551.
